Daniel Smith Secondary Set Review: Brief Thoughts
In this article and video review, I will be demonstrating the Daniel Smith secondary set and will review the results.
I’ll show how these colors work together through a short demonstration near the end where I will go through an easy landscape tutorial for beginners. These are significantly cheaper to purchase as a set rather than individually.
I wasn’t paid to do this review and bought these paints myself.
Here are some of my swatches below. As you can see, the first two (Quinacridone Burnt Orange and Undersea Green) seem to lift more easily than the Carbazole Violet. This tends to be the case with granulating pigments. Carbazole Violet is rated medium-staining on the Daniel Smith website.
I bought a whole bunch of paints from Daniel Smith lately and this is my favorite – there are some surprising granulation effects in the Quinacridone Burnt Orange and Undersea Green. I found it quite surprising given that it’s near impossible to find a granulating orange.
The undersea green separates out to an incredible mix of blue and green-gold. Here are some swatches from the Daniel Smith website.
