About The Artist:

Here’s a little about who I am……..

Hello there! Maybe you want to know who I am.Β  I am called The Devon Artist, Paul Hopkinson. https://www.patreon.com/TheDevonArtist

Well, here you go…

I live in North Devon, UK, and I started drawing when I was knee-high to a grasshopper, but I didn’t pick up my first brush until the age of twelve. This was when I first started to paint in oils. I used to venture into the Derbyshire countryside with canvases and easels, indeed that is where it all began!

For many years I have undertaken watercolour, oil, acrylic and graphite commissions and have painted portraits, landscapes and also animals. It is always such an honour and privilege to be asked to paint someone’s beloved animal.

I now paint as a full-time professional artist and have over 40 years of experience. It is great to be able to say that I love every minute of my work. However, the time always seems to go too quickly when both film and I paint!

I live in North Devon and spend many weekends out and about in the local countryside. Indeed, when I’m not painting wildlife I like looking for and watching animals, birds and insects in the natural environment.

Therefore, when I am asked what would be my preferred subject, I would say without doubt wildlife! I love trying to get the life within the eyes of my finely detailed, realistic paintings.

My focus these days is on teaching my style and techniques online. As such I do this through my online school, very in-depth written PDFs and also through YouTube. I add new video tutorials to my website every month. These vary in length, with the main project of 3 -5 hours. Some tutorials are not just on animals, but also on botanical subjects.

There is already a substantial back catalogue on the site of over 130 tutorials. What’s more, members have 24/7 access and can watch them as often as they like.

Certainly, I absolutely love teaching others. In addition, I find it really rewarding to see the progress people make as they work on the projects. My paint brushes are still very rarely dry, I am still painting, but I also spend a lot of time video editing.

Why not come and join me on my wildlife in watercolour, where I can teach you my methods of painting, helping you avoid the pitfalls which I have made over those many, many years of painting.

See you there!

Paul Hopkinson
